Seeing is believing
Telepresence World 2008 in London will be a landmark summit on the emerging technologies of telepresence, presence and videoconferencingOver the next decade, virtually every Global 5000 company will adopt a technology that allows them to interact with people, no matter how far away, as if they were in the same room. The technology is called telepresence, and a variety of Fortune 1000 organisations already use it, reporting both satisfaction and a strong return on their investment.
“You have to experience it to believe it” is often heard when describing telepresence. Telepresence meetings make remote participants life-size, with fluid motion, accurate flesh-tones, eye-to-eye contact, and flawless audio. The experience feels remarkably natural for almost any size meeting, from two people to large classrooms. Telepresence solutions, which are easy to use and surprisingly handy for collaborating on spreadsheets, slide decks, documents, or even physical objects, can increase efficiency and productivity in industries as varied as manufacturing, medicine, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and oil & gas. In addition, using telepresence technology to replace non-essential ‘in-person’ meetings can substantially reduce the corporate carbon footprint, helping businesses to ‘go green.’
Telepresence World 2008 London, which will take place 18th-19th March, 2008, at the city’s ExCel Exhibition and Conference Centre, will showcase this amazing technology, highlighting the latest state-of-the-art systems designed to enable and enhance collaboration. The conference will focus on real-world applications of telepresence and will feature case studies, roundtables, and business analyses led by industry leaders. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to experience telepresence offerings from a number of vendors first-hand via demonstrations and exhibitions. Global telepresence leaders Teliris, Cisco and Hewlett Packard have already signed on as Diamond Sponsors, and Frost & Sullivan – a world-renowned corporate analyst firm – will be partnering with Telepresence World to provide market leadership, perspective, and insight.
According to Mark Barounos, President of conference organisers Hemisphere Expo Services, the use of telepresence technology for business applications “has increased dramatically” since the inaugural Telepresence World Conference in San Diego, CA, in June of 2007. “Telepresence vendors are reporting mounting numbers of customers world-wide. John Chambers, CEO of Cisco, recently said the company’s number of virtual meeting installations grew by over 400 percent in just the last business quarter alone. Telepresence is the future of social and corporate networking – the technology’s ability to create virtual collaboratories to incubate and cultivate ideas will have a tremendous impact on global economy. This is evidenced by the fact that the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland, has themed their 2008 Annual Meeting “The Power of Collaborative Innovation.”
Conference partner Frost & Sullivan estimates that global telepresence revenues will rise over 2000% from 2006 to 2013, as more and more organisations join effective visual collaboration networks. As the infrastructure grows, the utility, value, and ROI of being connected to these networks will increase, creating the same potential for exponential growth that characterised telephony and the Internet.
The venue for Telepresence World 2008 London is the acclaimed ExCel Exhibition and Conference Centre, located near the London City Airport and Canary Wharf. The stunning waterfront setting includes a variety of hotels, restaurants, and pubs and is adjacent to the Royal Victoria Dock, originally established by Prince Albert in 1855. Organisers expect over 700 delegates and decision-makers to attend the event, which will be covered by an exclusive core of journalists and media outlets.
